This is a regular phenomenon on our roads. Motorists who want to take a right turn move to the right of the road they are coming from and turn. Right in the path of motorists who are coming out of that road, turning left or right or straight if it is a junction! People turning left can turn without affecting others as we ride on the left side of the roads. But people turning right have to cut across the traffic coming from opposite side as well as motorists turning right from the road they are turning into. Unfortunately no one seems to ride with their brain, if they have any.
An effort of Safe Initiative Mission Society – SIMS – who are doing an exemplary work in spreading awareness about road safety, in and around Chennai. Lyrics by my friend Chezhian. Enjoy and spread the word.
Rangarajapuram flyover connects Kodambakkam and West Mambalam to T.Nagar. It was open only from T.Nagar 24 hours at the beginning and then better sense prevailed. Now between 8 am and 12 pm entry allowed only towards T Nagar side. It reduces the traffic volume on Kodambakkam flyover and Duraisamy subway. But inspite of sign boards mentioning the one way timings and barricade near Vivek and a traffic police motorists do come the wrong way. Why is that the authorities wake up only after some major accident happen? Do they really wake up or act so to blow over the public anger? It is very common to see the old violations coming back after sometime!
Edit: Now in their wisdom they have stopped that partial entry they gave towards T.Nagar side!
Auto drivers not only fleece the public but also affect the flow of traffic either by parking wherever they want to or by moving slowly looking for victims(passengers).
